You can read more about how Andi works and why it is different.
Click the Andi logo any time to return to the search chat page.
This page gives you some help and tips on using Andi effectively, so you can learn how to use it for much more than just simple keyword searches.
You can ask Andi for help and tips at any time to get to this page by saying 'help' at any time.
It's early days and Andi is still experimental, but it's learning more things and getting better every day!
Andi does its best to protect your privacy when you search, and before you go out on the open web. It opens external links in a new window without any referral information, so it doesn't give away your searches to other websites. It doesn't use cookies. We will never sell or give your data to anyone else. We only capture information needed to do a good job for you. We don't sell ads and we don't sell our users.
Results
Andi gives you a direct answer where possible, or returns a card with a top result, web search results, and news, images, videos or places when available. On a wide screen, the results show in a panel to the right. On smaller screens, click on the "See the full Search Results" button to see the results. You can go back through earlier searches quickly with the orange button on each response.
If the content is suitable for reading, the View in Reader button gives you a secure reader-mode view of the content that protects you from ad-tech and tracking, and presents the content in a friendly easy-to-read way free from ads or distractions.
If the top match is a video or music you can play it directly on its card where allowed by the source (eg Spotify, YouTube etc).
Asking Questions
With Andi, better questions produce much better results. Ask in plain language (not "googlese"), like you would a friend. The more specific the question and the more detail you provide, the better the answer will be.
Try asking Andi some questions:
What is the gdp per capita of china vs new zealand?
how much of the world's electricity supply now comes from wind turbines and solar panels?
What's the time in Bali?
Who is the Prime Minister of New Zealand?
When was the Magna Carta signed?
What is the weather in Miami Beach?
The more complex the question, the more time Andi will spend looking for an answer. You can choose to get smarter answers that take longer (10+ seconds) or adjust it to get faster responses without as much research time. The more time and brain power Andi can use, the better the results will be.
Andi will give you a direct answer if it can find or calculate one, or find the best resource available on the web.
You can tap or click View details on Andi's answer to find out more!
How to ask questions in other languages
Although Andi doesn't fully support multiple languages yet, just include a question mark ("?") at the end if you'd like to ask Andi to try a deep answer for a language other than English. Otherwise it will try using simpler techniques.
Search the Web
Try some traditional web searches. Andi will suggest the best result it can find. If it's an article, you can click Read to read a friendly reader-mode view of the article, or click Open to go to the page on the web. Click More to see more results.

Navigating to Websites
Use 'go' (or '/g' if you like) to navigate straight to websites and apps by name, rather than searching for them. Type 'go' and a destination to go straight there. Make sure to allow popups in your browser to let Andi open them immediately, or else tap the link provided.
Make sure to allow popups in your browser for Andi when prompted in the top bar so the destination opens directly!
Here are a few examples to try:
go facebook
go twitter
go reddit
go new york times
go aws console
go azure portal
go hn
For many websites, you can navigate direcly to a search result or feature on the destination.
go hn google is dying
go youtube cute pandas
go twitter elonmusk dogecoin
go CNN gamestop reddit
go python docs list comprehension
go amazon women's shoes
You can also jump straight to a top result for many searches by saying "go {search term} on {website}":
go politics on reddit
Where it's likely a destination, Andi will open the result in a new window (so long as you allow popups for Andi in your browser address bar when prompted). Typing go at the start will try to open the website or app if possible.
You can also use DuckDuckGo !Bang shortcuts such as !a shoes to navigate to shoes on amazon. There is more detail about commands below.
Commands
Read about how to use power user commands like /e (exact searches), /w (wiki search), /s(site search), Bang shortcuts (!a shoes) and more.
